Search and rescue operations in Surmalu shopping center continue week after blast

Search and rescue operations on the territory of the Surmalu shopping center continue a week after the explosion, said Ministry of Emergency Situations of Armenia.

Employees of the rescue services of the Center for the Implementation of Special Rescue Works of the Rescue Forces Department, the Department for the Organization of Fire Fighting and Rescue Works, duty groups of the Medical Support Department of the Yerevan Rescue Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, as well as volunteers of the Red Cross humanitarian organization are working at the scene.

Search and rescue work is carried out by 1 section. The work involved 1 caterpillar excavator, 2 trucks and 1 truck crane.

As a result of search and rescue operations, the bodies of 16 citizens were found. 63 citizens turned to the medical centers of Yerevan, three of whom continue to receive treatment, while the rest were discharged after receiving medical care.

From August 14 to August 20, 1,189 rescuers from territorial and structural divisions of the National Security Service participated in fire fighting and search and rescue operations in the Surmalu shopping center.

Rescuers removed 10 victims from the rubble.
