W M Donald, a civil engineering contractor, has added a new FMX 540 Globetrotter to it fleet. The 8x4 Tridem rigid will be used by the Arberdeen-based firm on its work on major infrastructure projects across the north-east of Scotland and has had a triple fan suction excavator body fitted to it. Supplied Volvo Truck and Bus Centre North & Scotland, the FMX has a nine-tonne front axle and is powered by Volvo’s D13K engine producing 540 hp.

Ewan Riddoch, MD of W M Donald, says: “In the past we’ve tended to run with a different manufacturer, but we’ve been moving more towards Volvo. Five of the seven trucks we have now are Volvos.

“The key factors for opting for them this time was a competitive price point, a good relationship with the local dealer and the improved turning circle the Tridem can give us. Also, the bodybuilder was very familiar with the FMX chassis so the process of fitting that equipment was more straightforward.”

Scania UK has launched Scania Go, a new proposition for retailing its premium used trucks.

The scheme, which is open to all Scania trucks under five years of age and 550,000km, will be adopted throughout its wholly-owned and independent dealers.

Launching the Scania Go concept to its dealers last week, head of used sales Steve Legg explained that there are various elements to the scheme. These include a Replace Before Failure Guarantee, which sees Scania technicians replacing selected components approaching the end of their life while carrying out a 300-point mechanical and cosmetic inspection. This covers items such as turbochargers, diesel particulate filters and clutch release bearings.

He explained that there is also a 30-day no-quibble replacement guarantee. “With our enhanced preparation, we are confident that you’ll love your purchase. However, if you have an electrical or mechanical fault within the first 30 days we’ll exchange it for a like-for-like replacement vehicle. If we can’t find a replacement, we’ll give you your money back, giving total peace of mind. Wow! That’s putting your money where your mouth is. That’s true confidence. It’s industry-leading. A few are trying to catch us, but they’re not even on the  same page,” he said.
